Weddings | 2011 Trends

Brides are in full bore planning mode for their summer, fall and winter weddings this year. Most are searching weddings and 2011 trends. So, what are some of the new or popular trends this year?

  • Going green – Yes, green is more and more popular for weddings but not so much as a color as a way of doing things. Eco-friendly invitations, recycling items to use as centerpieces, or incorporating bamboo since it is one of the most sustainable resources on earth are just a few. Others include seeds, donations or edible favors for your guests; holding your wedding and reception at the same location to avoid excess fuel emissions; using soy candles since they are a sustainable resource and available in all sizes shapes and colors. There are a lot of different ways you can make your wedding more eco-friendly.
  • Outdoor Venues – Going hand in hand with green weddings is the return to outdoor venues for weddings and receptions. The natural backdrop of an outdoor event takes little sprucing up as far as decor is concerned. DIY brides and grooms are favoring the return to outdoors and the opportunity to show off their creativity.
  • Table Shapes – No longer do you have to choose between round or rectangle tables — choose both! Modern brides are mixing up their table shapes to create visual interest. Keep the linens the same as a base but switch up the shapes. Try square for something new!
  • Unusual Centerpieces — Hit the thrift stores and yard sales and find unique items to use as centerpieces for weddings. Follow your theme and incorporate it into the tablescapes. No more “sea of sameness” or buying a lot of 15 exact same centerpieces for today’s brides. They want new and different in their centerpieces.
  • Ball Gowns are Back – Yup, this year, designers rolled out the catwalk with lots of big and fluffy dress designs. It’s a move back toward the fairytale weddings. Brides will be wearing ball gowns more in 2011.
  • Evening Weddings – Evening weddings are making a huge comeback. What better way to celebrate your special day than to host a dance party for your family and friends until the wee hours. Weddings will move to later in the evening for a lot of 2011 brides and grooms.
  • Dessert Anyone? – Dessert buffets are becoming a very popular trend in addition to the wedding cake. There’s just something about a sweet treat before you head home from an evening of celebrations. Whether an assortment of fancy mini desserts or full cakes, pies and cheesecakes adorning your buffet, display your desserts in an eye catching manner and guests won’t stop talking about your reception!

Wedding trends come and go. The trick is to personalize the concept so you don’t end up with a cookie-cutter event. Take suggestions and ideas from others as a base and build it into your dream wedding. Good luck and congratulations!
