Top 5 Ideas for Vintage Weddings

April 3, 2011 | Author: | Posted in Themes

Weddings and receptions with vintage themes are all the rage and incorporating vintage wedding ideas is the task at hand.

A vintage theme means we can combine our love of “something old”, glamor and sophistication with our wedding. Brides and grooms are more aware of the environment as well and this goes hand in hand with a vintage theme.

The following are 5 ideas that brides are using in their vintage themed weddings. Find one you like!

Centerpieces

The answer to centerpiece ideas for vintage weddings is to Reuse! Brides are haunting thrift stores, yard sales and eBay to find different and unique items to use for their centerpieces. Vintage means seeing the enduring appeal of items — grouping them together to give the look and feel of yesteryear — old books used as risers, maps, postcards and glassware from a simpler time.

Gone are the days of matchy-matchy and floral arrangements on every table. Brides are using their creativity to come up with centerpieces that represent their themes, lives and love.

Veils

The vintage bride is looking toward birdcage style veils. They are usually a small hat or headpiece that includes a netted veil that drops over part of the face — very en vogue right now. Some are fancy with feathers, crystals or laces adding to their character. Some are more simplistic based on the pill box style that Greta Garbo (1930′s), and later Jackie Kennedy (1960′s), made popular.

Others are just a headpiece with the netting attached preferring to let the hair style take center stage.

Cakes

Cakes are still a very important part of the event. Modern brides are leaning towards more, classic, simplistic designs here too. Square and round stacked cakes with crystal encrusted monogram letters being their crown or a “back to basics” vintage bride and groom gracing the top. Less ornate and more sophistication is called for in a vintage wedding.

Green

Today’s brides and grooms are more aware of their footprint on the environment. A vintage theme is perfect for recycling old or vintage items for decor, reusing grandma’s china or Depression glass collection and reducing the waste weddings can create. Forget the escort cards and using all that paper — use an elegant seating chart made from an old picture frame. Instead of favors your guests end up throwing away, buy seed packets or give something edible. Little things like this can make a difference and today’s couple is doing their part.

Travel

The Vintage Travel theme is really starting to take off. There are many different directions this theme can go and brides are making them unique by using personal touches. Whether it’s an “Around the World” travel theme or places you’ve visited or just a vintage travel general theme, the options are endless and they are all classy.
