Dr Bronner: Organic Soap & Ecofriendly Cleaning Products

Like most of my Squidoo pages Dr Bronner: Organic Soap & Ecofriendly Cleaning Products is not only about a topic about which I am interested (Ecofriendly Cleaning), it also has a personal story.

The page about Dr Bronner was gifted to me by another Squidoo Lensmaster: Clouda9 (Correen). Correen was looking to give some lenses away – presumably because she is now focussing on recipe lenses and her recipe website. So she sent me an email to ask me if I would like to take over the lens. Which I gratefully accepted.

And this is how I came to learn all about Dr Bronner, who first started taking a natural and holistic approach to the use of environmentally friendly cleaning products in the home back in the 60s.

Using a combination of natural ingredients for his natural cleaning “recipes”, Dr Bronner’s ecofriendly cleaning products are created from an old family recipe that has been handed down through the generations. Dr Bronner was certainly a pioneer in the field of green cleaning products, which use organic and fair trade olive oil as their base.

Dr Bronner was a controversial figure and had a few run-ins with “the establishment”. Following an arrest in 1947, he was committed to a mental hospital, from which he managed to escape. But not before he had been subjected to electric shock therapy.

He finally settled with his family in California where he established his home business, making hand-made soap. But by his death in 1997 he had a factory that was producing over 1m bottles of soap each year.
