Houston Angle Spotlights The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Every year Houstonians heed the call of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and turn out for three weeks of rodeo mayhem. This is one huge event in Houston and, surprisingly enough, it’s also for charity. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a mega-charity event that has collected over 264 million dollars over 78 years. No matter how you count it, that’s a lot of moola. But even more inspiring is the knowledge that the money is raised throughout the year, and that more than 24,000 volunteers will turn out to help put on the The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo during its three week operation.

Houston is proud of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and should be. Houstonians line-up for tickets to attend the nightly concerts put on by A-list performers from every music genre. Children delight in the midway and the petting zoo where they not only get to pet the calves and bunnies but the llamas and emus. But the real show is the rodeo. Attendees witness the true western spirit in action during bull riding, calve-roping, and buck bronking events. Most fun event? The Pig Scramble.

It all begins when trail riders from across Texas saddle up and join one of the historical trail rides that culminates with a big celebration night in Houston that kicks off the 3-week extravaganza. You’ll find real cowboys and cowgirls riding alongside the highways and freeways followed by a train of chuck wagons–and cooks, of course.
