How to make Green Cupcakes

How to make Green Cupcakes has a great Green Cupcake recipe plus something you might not be expecting!

With the exploding popularity of cupcakes (and having a great little Cupcake cook in my house), I thought it was time to dabble in discussing the culinary art of cupcake making but with a slightly different emphasis than on just those gorgeous confections!

So I started to think Green. Not just Green Cupcakes, but green as in environment. Green as in eco friendly baking. Green as in “green” kitchen equipment.

This got me looking for eco friendly catering and kitchen equipment that was either made from sustainable or recycled materials.

Enter Bamboo and recycled plastic.

I knew that Bamboo is being increasingly used for various products and that it can be used as a wood base and even textiles, but I did not know the benefits to the environment from cultivating and harvesting bamboo.

Did you know that compared to an equivalent stand of trees, bamboo absorbs 5 times as much CO2, and generates 35% more oxygen?

Also that bamboo is like grass and therefore sustainable? You can harvest Bamboo and it does not die, regrowing to the same height at which it was harvested in just four years?

Then of course there’s the mountains of plastic that are discarded each year – 100 million tonnes of it and much of it ends up in landfill, where it does not easily decompose because it is not biodegradeable.

So next time you buy some new kitchen equipment, how about going green, so that your green cupcakes will be green in more ways than just one!
