Lake Erie Artists Gallery, located in historic Cleveland shopping center Shaker Square, is one Cleveland, Ohio art gallery that focuses on local northeast Ohio artists.

The gallery used to be at Tower City Center, but moved in 2009 to its current location next to one of the city’s oldest restaurants, Balaton.  The space is open and comfortable with bright colors, and clusters of beautiful work by artists.

The range of work is vast, including paintings, photography, graphic art prints, and lots of handmade gifts such as functional pottery, glassware, and jewelry.

In addition, Lake Erie Artists Gallery has a selection of green art, art made from recycled products.  The mug pictured to the left is made by Garrettsville artist Tracy Shea, a long time potter of functional ware.

Lake Erie Artists Gallery also has a very extensive website which has a shopping section, lists classes and workshops, and shows and events.  Each artist has a short bio page describing their work, and a shopping section.  The website does not have everything that is in the brick and mortar store, but it is a good place to browse and get an idea of what Lake Erie Artists Gallery carries.

Besides the artwork, the gallery keeps a selection of local books at the store, books both written by local authors, and about Cleveland.  Some of the works that are in the gallery are memorabilia pieces showing days long by and places no longer in existence.

Shaker Square itself has a long history, and is the second oldest shopping center in the United States.  It boasts a wide range of locally owned and operated restaurants and is a hop, skip and a jump away from the Larchmere area, another section of unique shops.  If you are in Cleveland for travel or business, and have the time,  Shaker Square is a great place to visit.
