Cleveland Art Galleries are Tucked Around the City
It might surprise you to learn how many art galleries are tucked away in and around the city of Cleveland, Ohio. Most people do not really think of Cleveland as being an art town, unless you start to dig a little deeper into the city’s culture. But if you think about it, it is not too surprising to find so many artists residing in Cleveland.
Cleveland is the home of one of the world’s best art museums, that houses an impressive collection of art, much of which is hidden from view most of the year. Currently the Cleveland Museum of Art is undergoing a massive multi-year renovation and expansion which also includes the cleaning of many pieces of art.
In addition the museum, Cleveland is also home to the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Art that has trained many artists over the years. Because Cleveland, Ohio is a friendly, laid back town, it is not surprising in the least that many of the graduates of the Cleveland Institute of Art remain and reside in Cleveland for years.
There are several pockets of art galleries hidden among areas of the city, often paired with excellent local restaurants and pubs. Some of those areas are Tremont on the near west side of Cleveland, Ohio City, also on the near west side, Superior Avenue on the northeastern part of Cleveland, Collinwood one of the newer artist areas, and Shaker Square/Larchmere on the far eastern edge of Cleveland next to Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights.
Many of the parts of Cleveland that have art galleries are also in the older sections of the city, and the art galleries and restaurants are reviving them both by bringing in traffic and by physically refurbishing the storefronts and houses.
Visitors to Cleveland will surely be able to find unique gifts and art to take home with them to remind them of their trip to Cleveland.
