Seattle's Attractions of Downtown Shopping

Seattle is a rich and energetic city located in Washington State. It has a population of 630,320, according to the U.S. Census of 2010. Go to a concert and visit the Seattle Center where the Space Needle is located. Or just spend the day shopping in downtown Seattle. A wonderful place to shop for anything your heart desires.

There are over 2,000 retailers from department stores, furniture galleries, floral shops and specialty shops. Within are major shopping centers: Bay Pavilion, Chandler’s Cove, City Center, Pacific Place, Pike Place Market, Union Square, Uwajimaya Village, Westlake Center and five more.

Pioneer Square is one of the more popular places to shop for those looking for antiques, artwork, imports and history. It is called the Historic part of Seattle. This part of Seattle is an amazing architectural area with many of the buildings dating back to the 1890s. At Pioneer Square you can find many unique art galleries, antique shops and bookstores.

Visit Pioneer Square the first Thursday of every month for a free art galleries tour, held early in the evening. Artist display an array of contemporary, abstract, Native American art, digital and photography.

After a long day shopping, spend the evening at Pioneer Square for some lively music and dancing.

For shoppers looking for fresh produce and delicious seafood, along with crafts and flower bouquets, Seattle’s Pike Place Market is the place to go. Venders set up early in the morning in anticipation for the crowd. It first opened in 1907 with a few farmers selling their produce. Make sure not to get there too late. The market shuts down at 5:30pm.

Besides the venders, Pike Place has many small shops and some restaurants. None of these are franchise businesses, except for Starbucks. This is Starbucks original home, where it started out as a small shop. When Starbucks began, selling souvenirs was top priority with coffee in the background.

Visitors will want to take in more than shopping. Seattle Attractions will show some favorite places to take the family for a visit.
