How To Spend A Weekend In Canberra
Visitors to Australia very often don’t consider including the city of Canberra in their travel plans. Spending a day or two in Canberra can add a different perspective to your journey, however. Most Australians have at least visited Canberra during a school excursion, usually when studying the nation’s parliamentary system. For many, this may well be the only time they visit as they may have no desire to return. Many people don’t realise that although Canberra may not immediately appear to have much to offer visitors, dig a little deeper and you will find much to delight and keep you busy for several days at least.
Canberra is the Capital City of Australia and is located roughly half way between Sydney and Melbourne. Much smaller than her two big sisters Canberra seems to lack the culture of Melbourne and the excitement of Sydney, but she has found other ways to delight her guests. Finding things to do in Canberra isn’t difficult if you know what to look for. Canberra hosts repositories of anything which is representative of the nation as a whole. This includes art, science, defence, history and sport to name a few. These areas can be explored through several museums dedicated to them. Don’t think for a minute however, that these are dark and dreary, stuffy places. Canberra’s museums are bright and welcoming, and extremely inviting.
Canberra has found some unique and unusual techniques to differentiate herself from other destinations. From festivals devoted to flowers to institutions devoted to glass art, a wide range of interests is represented throughout Canberra’s neighbourhood precincts. When you’re ready to eat there is an abundance of choice as Canberra has well and truly embraced the cafe culture.
When looking for a place to stay in Canberra the visitor will find that all needs are catered for from simple tourist park and guest house accommodation through to luxury 5 star hotels and resorts. For something a little out of the ordinary try staying in a converted train for a unique experience in a picturesque and tranquil location.
