Visiting the other side of Rome
Most people have heard of Rome, and many have visited. Every year, millions of people take one of the roads leading to Rome, eager to see for themselves all the fantastic sites. The trip is well worth it, Rome is truly an interesting and beautiful city. A person can spend months or years, and still there are things left to see. History and modern life is all there in a marvelous mixture.
Getting to know the Romans themselves is not always easy, the reason being that very few speak another language! It is only recently that English is being taught in schools, and television is all dubbed in Italian. This should not prevent you from trying to approach the locals, though. The people in Rome are very friendly, and they like chatting! Many times, the language-barrier is more a nuisance than a problem. True, getting into deep discussions might not be possible, but sharing a few thoughts over a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) can be very enjoyable.
It is not difficult getting around in Rome, there is a vast public transport system. It is quite slow, though, since most transport is over ground. Rome is so full of ancient ruins, that digging in the ground is not easy. They want to protect their historic heritage, and rightly so.
Why not try venturing somewhere outside of the central parts, visiting
You will be surprised, Rome is very diverse. In the suburban parts of Rome, the pace is much slower. People even keep chicken in their backyards! Here you will see the old men sitting outside the bar the whole day, playing cards and smoking. Drinking grappa and discussing politics. There are some fantastic markets full of delicious fruits and vegetables. If you ask nicely they will let you have a taste!
Rome is beautiful, fascinating and available. Thanks to the great number of tourists, people are used to seeing foreigners. Many are curious to get to know others, to learn more. Go there, mingle and relax! You are sure to enjoy it.

There is a lot to discover in life, and I am happy to have my children with me during the journey. We love cooking, travelling and reading. Taking pictures of nature and other things that come in our way also keep us busy. With digital cameras it is so easy to fix pictures and use them for a lot of things, including Zazzle. Writing articles is also fun, especially when we can include some of our pictures!
