British Singer Adele Returns
Two years ago, I was watching the Grammy Awards when my ears perked up as British singer Adele took to the stage and began singing her Award-winning song, Chasing Pavements.
Always a sucker for a soulful sounding voice, and somewhat disconnected from the latest UK music news, I did some searching to find out more about her. At the time, I was surprised to discover that she was only 19 (the title of her first album), as she sang with a style and emotion that was way beyond her years.
That voice translated well onto other tracks from 19, such as Hometown Glory, Cold Shoulder and her emotionally charged and pleading rendition of Bob Dylan’s Make You Feel My Love.
Now she is back with new material and a new CD that is already topping the Album Chart in the UK. 21 brings more American influences to her songwriting, as is evidenced by the lead single Rolling in the Deep, a thumping, brooding tale of heartache. It’s a song that I play daily and one that truly has me hooked.
America will have to wait a little longer, however, as 21 is not released there until February 22. For me, it can’t come soon enough.
It is not often that I enthuse about a singer like this, but I believe Adele deserves your attention.
